Baseball Splits Pair of Twin Bills with Hesston College

Cedar Valley's baseball team split a couple doubleheaders with Hesston College Friday and Saturday.

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team split a pair of doubleheaders with Hesston College Friday and Saturday.

The Suns won the first game of the weekend series, 9-5, before dropping the second game Friday, 11-9. They took the opening game of Saturday's twin bill, 15-5, before falling in the finale, 7-1.

Cedar Valley's Matt Marsic hit .444 with two home runs, five RBI, five walks and two stolen bases in the four games. Jaquavius Davis batted .500 with a double, a triple, a walk and four stolen bases.

In the first game Friday, Suns starter Caleb Pacheco went five innings, allowing four hits, five runs, three walks, and struck out seven to earn his second win of the season. Landon Kinder worked the final two innings, allowing no runs, no hits and two walks, and fanned four in relief.

Jayden Ramos was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBI and a walk. Marsic was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Davis went 2-for-4 with a triple. Daniel Brandon III had two hits, and drove in two runs.

Cedar Valley (5-3) took a 4-3 lead in the fourth inning. Hesston scored two runs in the top of the fifth to regain control, but the Suns responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning, and tacked on two more in the sixth, and Kinder shut the door.

In the second game Friday, Hesston scored three runs in each of the first three innings to take a 9-6 lead. The Suns pulled within 9-8 after scoring twice in the fourth, but Hesston added a couple runs in the fifth, and Cedar Valley was able to scratch only one more run across the rest of the way.

Davis and Caden Robertson each had two hits, and Marsic homered twice. Davis and Marsic both drove in three runs apiece. Robertson had three stolen bases.

In the opener Saturday, Cedar Valley raced out to a 12-2 lead after two innings, scoring eight runs in the second to break the game open in the five-inning run-rule verdict. The Suns scored at least one run in each of their five innings at the plate.

Ryan Talley had two hits, and drove in three runs for the Suns. Davis was 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Robertson went four innings, allowing four hits, three runs, two earned, three walks, and struck out three to pick up the win on the mound.

In the series final game, Hesston scored in each of the first three innings to take a 5-0 lead. Cedar Valley scored once in the fifth, but that was all the Suns could muster.

Antonio Sabala doubled in three plate appearances. Davis, Robertson, Ramos, Samuel Massi and Elian Gonzales each had one hit to account for the Suns' six in the game.

Cedar Valley will open Dallas Athletic Conference play noon Wednesday at Dallas College North Lake.
