Suns Sweep Pair from SWAGU

Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team swept a doubleheader at Southwestern Assemblies of God University Junior Varsity Monday, winning 18-4 and 7-2.

The Suns improved to 9-4 overall, and will begin their second Dallas Athletic Conference series 12 p.m. Wednesday at Dallas College Mountain View.

In Monday's first game, Cedar Valley jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning before SWAGU scored two of their own. The Suns tacked on nine more runs combined in the fourth and fifth innings to bump the lead to 12 runs, and never were tested the rest of the way.

The Suns pounded 21 hits.

Cedar Valley's Daniel Brandon III was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI and three stolen bases. Jaquavius Davis went 4-for-6 with two doubles and two RBI.  Matthew Marsic had three hits, including a triple, in four at-bats. Caden Robertson homered, doubled and drove in five runs. Blaine Thomas homered, doubled and had two RBI and two walks. Ryan Talley was 2-for-4 with four RBI. Cesar Mora was 2-for-4.

Middle reliever Jaxon Simmons (2-1) got the win on the mound, giving up two hits, no runs and no walks in two innings. He took over for starter Ramiro Montiel Jr., who allowed four hits, two runs and no walks in three innings. Cole Caldwell tossed the final two innings, allowing two hits, two runs and two walks.

In the nightcap, Cedar Valley trailed 1-0 through four innings before scoring three runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings to take command of the game. The Suns added a run in the seventh after Southwestern Assemblies of God picked up one in the bottom of the sixth.

Robertson had four of the Suns' 12 hits, reaching base safely in all four plate appearances while driving in three runs and stealing three bases. Zachary Mikes was 2-for-5. Elian Gonzales, Jayden Ramos and Cooper Brewer each had a double, and Talley tripled.

Suns starter Rece Houghton earned his first win of the year, allowing two hits, a run and a walk in four innings. Leonardo De La Garza Jr. pitched a scoreless fifth, without allowing a base runner. Antonio Sabala worked the sixth, yielding two hits, a run and no walks.
