Suns Sweep Twin Bill from ETBU JV

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team swept a doubleheader from East Texas Baptist University Junior Varsity Monday, winning both games in five innings, 19-9 and 11-1.

Cedar Valley (23-11) won three of the four games in the home-and-home seroes with ETBU JV over the past two Mondays.

The Suns have beaten seven opponents in five-inning run-rule verdicts this year.

Blaine Thomas went 7-for-7 with two doubles, a triple, a grand slam, eight runs batted in and six runs scored in the sweep. His grand slam in the fourth inning of the second game gave the Suns an 8-1 lead. Thomas was 4-for-4 with the home run, double and six RBI in the nightcap.

Thomas and Jayden Ramos each had three hits and two RBI in the first game. Antonio Sabala, Ryan Talley, Cooper Brewer and Ian Williams each had two of the Suns' 16 hits in the opener. Sabala, Ramos and Brewer all doubled, and Williams' two hits were triples.

Sabala banged his first home run of the season.

In four innings on the hill, Cedar Valley starting pitcher Rece Houghton (3-1) allowed two earned runs on nine hits and two walks, with five strikeouts in the win.

In the second game, Caden Robertson, Matthew Marsic and Cesar Mora each had two of Cedar Valley's 13 hits. Robertson doubled and drove in a run. Marsic, Sabala and Jaquavius Davis all had one RBI, as well.

Austin Brown (2-1) pitched all five innings, allowing an unearned run on three hits and a walk, and had six strikeouts.

Cedar Valley hosts Dallas College North Lake at 12 p.m. Wednesday to begin the second half of Dallas Athletic Conference action.
