Suns Rally to Beat Blazers, 5-4

LANCASTER, Texas – Antonio Sabala had a two-out RBI single to center field in the bottom of the eighth inning, lifting Dallas College Cedar Valley to a 5-4 win over Dallas College North Lake Thursday.

It was the second win in as many days over the Blazers for the Suns, who ran their win streak to eight straight. Game 3 in the Dallas Athletic Conference series is set for noon Friday at North Lake.

Sabala went 3-for-5 with a double and four runs batted in. Jayden Ramos had two hits, including a double, in four plate appearances. Elian Gonzales, Caden Robertson, Matthew Marsic, Ryan Talley and Cooper Brewer each had one hit. Marsic had a stolen base.

Connor Donathan (3-2) pitched three perfect innings in relief, fanning seven to pick up the win.

The Suns (25-11, 11-6 DAC) scored three runs in the bottom of the fourth. Talley lined a single to center to score Ramos with two outs. After Brewer mirrored Talley with another single up the middle, Sabala doubled to center to drove in a pair.

North Lake (15-21, 7-10) answered with four runs in its next at-bat to take a one-run lead. Jake Williams' sacrifice fly scored Noah Angus. With two outs, Noah Hack scored on a passed ball to make it 3-2. Danny Berenthy singled to the left side, scoring two to push the Blazers ahead, 4-3.

With two outs in the sixth, Sabala singled to the right side to score Daniel Brandon III, who drew two walks on the day. That tied the game at 4-4.

It wasn't until Sabala returned to the plate in the eighth that either side picked up – the only base runners coming on a pair of walks and a hit batsmen. Sabala's third base knock of the game proved to be the gamewinner. It was the fourth three-hit game of the year for the Suns outfielder, whose four RBI matched a season high.

Cedar Valley starter Blaine Thomas allowed four runs on four hits and three walks, while striking out four in six innings of the no decision. North Lake's Hunter Greenwell went the distance in the loss, giving up two earned runs on nine hits, five walks and five strikeouts.

The Suns improved to 10-4 at home.
