Cedar Valley Wins Wild One with Mountain View

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team scratched out a run in the bottom of the ninth inning Wednesday to complete an 18-17 comeback victory over Dallas College Mountain View.

The Suns (28-12, 12-7 Dallas Athletic Conference) matched a season high with 23 hits in winning their third straight game. They also had 23 hits in a win at Dallas College Brookhaven March 31.

Cedar Valley led 9-4 after four innings, but Mountain View (16-22, 5-14) scored eight runs in the top of the fifth to take a 12-9 lead. The Lions extended their lead to 17-13 with four runs in the sixth and another in the seventh. The Suns tied the game in the eighth when they put four runs on the board, and then won it in their final at-bat.

Every Suns batter in the lineup registered at least one hit.

First baseman Blaine Thomas had four hits, including a home run and five runs batted in in six plate appearances. Left fielder Matthew Marsic had four hits, including a homer, four RBI, two stolen bases and a walk in five at-bats. Right fielder Caden Robertson went 3-for-5 with a homer, two RBI and a walk. Center fielder Antonio Sabala was 3-for-6.

Catcher Elian Gonzales went 2-for-5 with a double. Third baseman Jayden Ramos was 2-for-5 with two RBI and a sacrifice. Second baseman Ryan Talley had two hits, and drove in a run in five at-bats. Shortstop Cooper Brewer was 2-for-5 with a double. Designated hitter Daniel Brandon III went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a sacrifice fly.

Mountain View's Anthony Casteneda was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double, a walk and four RBI. Diego Saenz was 2-for-3 with a triple, a double and three RBI. Keaton King went 3-for-5.

Cedar Valley's Jeremiah Darrough (3-1) picked up the win in relief, allowing seven hits, six runs and a walk, and had six strikeouts in 4.2 innings.

The Suns and Lions are scheduled to resume the three-game league series Friday and Saturday at Mountain View. Both games are set for noon.
