Monday April 5, 2021 The Dallas Athletic Conference Tournament kicked off the NJCAA Region 5 Playoffs with the Cedar Valley Suns defeating the Bears of Brookhaven 93-86 in a hard-fought contest on the campus of Cedar Valley. The Suns were led by Tyrese Taylor double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds. He was followed by Neyland Blocks 19 point, 8 rebounds and Kolby Adams sparked the Suns of the bench with 18 points on 7-11 shooting from the floor including 4-7 from three-point range and Chase Theard (Thee-ard) also blitz the Bears with 15 points off the bench with 6-7 shooting including 2-3 beyond the arc. The Suns controlled the game from start to finish. The Suns shot 59.4% from the floor and 44.4% from three-point range. Other contributors were Tyren Miller with 8 points, Kolby Greene with 4, Marcus Tate and Amande Uchime with 3, Kobyachi Flowers with 2. Next up for the Suns will be Mountain View. Wednesday April 7, 2021 The second night of the Dallas Athletic Conference / Region 5 Tournament had a match up of Mountain View versus Cedar Valley. It was the first time that fans could watch games because of the pandemic and the gym was filled with excitement from the fans and players!! The Suns defeated the Lions by the score of 81-70. Cedar Valley had 5 guys in double-figures led by Neyland Blocks 21 point and 5 rebound performance, followed by Tyrese Taylor 19 point 8 rebounds, Chase Theard (Thee-ard) had 13, followed Tyren Miller 12 and Amande Uchime10 points and 7 rebounds. An all-around team performance for the Suns has catapulted them to the final four of the Region Tournament where they next face Richland Thunderducks. Friday April 9, 2021 The third night of the tournament had Cedar Valley Suns facing Richland Thunderducks for the fourth time of the season. This was a hard-fought battle in which the Suns fell short in their bid to move to Regional Finals by a score of 70-56. The Thunderducks made things difficult for the Suns as the team shot a putrid 35% from the floor. The Suns had four guys in double-figures, but it wasn?t enough to overcome Richland. Tyren Miller led the scoring with 13 points, followed by Tyrese Taylor?s 11. Neyland Block collected a double-double with a 10 point and 10 rebound performance and Amande Uchime also chipped in 10 points. The Suns finished the season with an 11-7 record and third place finish in conference. DALLAS ATHLETIC CONFERENCE ALL-CONFERENCE SELECTIONS The Dallas Athletic Conference held its annual end of the season basketball meeting and made all conference selections. The Cedar Valley Suns were well represented by having 3 selections. Neyland Block and Tyrese Taylor were voted to 1st Team All-Conference. Amande Uchime was voted to 2nd Team All-Conference. There were also individual awards awarded to players. Tyrese Taylor was voted as the NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR Amande Uchime was voted DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR SUNS SIGNINGS TO FOUR YEAR INSTITUTIONS ROWDY WATERS ? FRESHMAN- NOCO, TX WILL BE ATTENDING TRINITY BIBLE COLLEGE (ELLENDALE, ND) TO ATTEND SCHOOL AND CONTINUE HIS BASKETBALL CAREER AT THE FOUR-YEAR LEVEL. COACH JONES STATES, ?WE ARE SO EXCITED THAT ROWDY FOUND HIS HOME FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS TO CONTINUE HIS ACADEMIC AND ATHLETIC CAREER. ROWDY HAS BEEN AN EXCEPTIONAL STUDENT-ATHLETE AT CEDAR VALLEY AND REALLY ANTICIPATING GREAT THINGS FOR AND FROM HIM WHILE HE?S AT TRINITY.? NEYLAND BLOCK ?
