Suns Close Regular Season with Win over Brookhaven

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's men's basketball team closed the regular season with a 90-88 win over Dallas College Brookhaven Saturday.

It was the Suns' fourth game decided by two points or less this season. They are 2-2 in those games.

All five starters scored in double figures for Cedar Valley, which shot a season-best 55.7 percent from the field. The Suns hit 39 of 70 field goals.

Malik Conley scored 21 points, going 9 of 15 from the floor, and had five rebounds and a steal for Cedar Valley (11-17, 2-8 Dallas Athletic Conference). Isaiah Brass buried four triples, and finished with 19 points, three assists and a steal. Isaiah Sobers had 16 points, six rebounds and two steals, while shooting 8 of 15. Alonnie Carter had 15 points, and matched his season high with nine assists. Johan Bennett had 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and two blocks.

The Suns (11-17, 2-8 Dallas Athletic Conference) overcame an 11-point halftime deficit, outscoring the Bears (9-17, 4-6) in the second half, 53-40.

Brookhaven shot 58.2 percent from the field, going 32 of 55. The Bears canned 10 of 17 triples for 58.8 percent.

Curtis Trey Moffett had 19 points, six rebounds, five assists, two blocks and a steal, and Ryan Nurenberg added 19 points and seven assists for the Bears. Nurenberg was 6 of 8 from the floor, and Moffett 7 of 12. Andre Mancilla scored 17 points on 7 of 10 shooting, and grabbed six boards.

Cedar Valley outrebounded Brookhaven, 31-24.  

The Suns improved to 8-5 at home this season.

Sixth-seeded Cedar Valley will play third-seeded Dallas College Eastfield in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District quarterfinals 6 p.m. Tuesday at Eastfield.
