Bio

Rodney Gardner was named an assistant men's basketball coach at Dallas College Cedar Valley in August 2023.

In 2024-25, Cedar Valley went 12-16 overall, 6-9 in the Dallas Athletic Conference. The Suns advanced to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District quarterfinals. The Suns beat No. 15 Dallas College North Lake to cap a three-game conference winning streak in February. They put together a four-game win streak in November, which included wins over Connors State College at home and Coastal Bend College at the Blinn College Blue Bell Classic. Three Cedar Valley players earned Second Team All-Dallas Athletic Conference honors. 

In his first season with the Suns, Gardner was part of a staff that went 8-19 with a trip to the South Central District Tournament. He coached Antonio Sisk, who was named the NJCAA Division III Player of the Week, and signed with Mississippi Valley State University. 

Gardner coached at Crowley Independent School District in 2020. Prior to that, he worked with Everman ISD from 2016-19. From 1998-2015, Gardner coached in the Dallas ISD. He began his coaching stint with Amarillo ISD in 1991, and remained in that district through 1998. He also served as an educator during his coaching stops.

Gardner played at Eastern New Mexico University from 1987-90, following two years at Hill College from 1984-86.

He earned a bachelor of science degree in physical education, specializing in kinesiology.
