Bio

Roy Gregory was named head men's basketball coach at Dallas College Cedar Valley in 2021.

In 2022-23, Gregory's team went 11-18, advancing to the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South Central District quarterfinals, where the Suns fell in a battle with No. 9 nationally-ranked Dallas College Eastfield, 85-76. The Suns had a four-game win streak in January to reach the .500 mark. Cedar Valley went 8-5 at home, and beat Dallas College Brookhaven in Lancaster in the season finale.  

Gregory's first Cedar Valley team went 11-18 overall in 2021-22, bowing out in the opening round of the Dallas Athletic Conference postseason tournament. The Suns were 9-8 at home, and won a season-best four consecutive games in the opening month of the season. Cedar Valley won six of its first 11 games, and five of six games during the mid-season stretch.

Prior to taking over as head coach at Cedar Valley, he was the assistant coach with the Suns from 2018-21. Cedar Valley went 11-7 overall, 6-4 in the Metro Athletic Conference in 2020-21. The previous season, the Suns were 16-15 overall, 6-5 in the MAC.

From 2015-18, Gregory was the associate head coach at North Lake College in his second stint with the Blazers. During this four-year run, Gregory was part of a staff that helped North Lake capture the NJCAA Division III National Championship in 2017 as the Blazers went 22-11, and beat Elgin Community College, 66-56, to win the title in Rochester, Minnesota. A year later, North Lake placed sixth in the nation.

In 2013-14, Gregory was an assistant coach at Northwood University, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, in Cedar Hill, Texas. Prior to that, he served one year as an assistant coach at Wiley College, an NAIA institution in Marshall, Texas. From 2008-12, he worked as a personal trainer. Gregory was an assistant coach at his alma mater, Grambling State University in 2007-08. 

From 2003-07, Gregory served as the associate head coach at North Lake College. The Blazers won their first national championship in 2006, beating Rowan Glooucester (N.J.) in the title game, 78-65. North Lake went 21-14 that season. In 2007, the Blazers finished fourth in the nation. North Lake won three straight MAC titles from 2004-06.

During both stints at North Lake, Gregory was a part of five NJCAA Division III Region V titles.

Gregory was the head coach at Mountain View College from 1999-03. He also served as an instructor during this time. Prior to his time with the Lions, he was an assistant coach at Navarro College, an NJCAA Division I school in Corsicana, Texas. 

He has coached in three international basketball tours in New Zealand, Australia, Ireland, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic with the People to People sports ambassador program.

In his time as a coach and educator, Gregory has specialized in behaviorial issues, character building, recruitment, training and physical education at the collegiate and grade school levels.  

Gregory is a graduate of Grambling State with a master's degree in sociology.
