Abdulsalam Named First Team All-American
Dallas College Cedar Valley's Farouk Abdulsalam was named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division III First Team All-American.
Abdulsalam, a freshman defender from Nigeria, scored the gamewinning goal in the Suns' 3-1 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University Reserve team on Sept. 20. He keyed a defense that posted six shutouts, including four in a row in September.
His presence helped Cedar Valley run off six straight wins in September that helped the Suns climb to No. 5 in the national poll. The Suns finished the season with a 9-4-2 record, and were receiving votes in the NJCAA DIII poll at season's end.
Abdulsalam was selected as the Dallas Athletic Conference Defender of the Year.
