Cedar Valley Wins Big in Conference Opener

Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball team beat Dallas College Richland, 100-26, in the Dallas Athletic Conference opener Thursday.

The 26 points was a season low for an opponent.

Five players scored in double figures for the Suns, who improved to 9-3 overall, 1-0 in the DAC. Ranked No. 7 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll, Cedar Valley shot 55 percent from the field, going 43 of 78.

Ja-Tauria Miller scored 23 points on 10 of 18 shooting. Shandrea Yeldell had 18 points and six steals. Nakia Brumley had 17 points, seven assists and six steals. She was 7 of 10 from the floor. Kate Valle had 13 points on 6 of 10 shooting. Sierra Headquist had 12 points, seven rebounds and six steals. Kayriona Brown had eight points, 11 boards and three steals.

Cedar Valley had 26 steals. It was the third time this season the Suns recorded 25 or more steals, and the fourth time they've reached 20 or better.

Khloe Williams scored 10 points, and Logan Ross had eight for Richland. Selah McDowell and Ilce Miranda each grabbed 10 rebounds for the Thunderducks.

The Suns will host Southwestern Assemblies of God University Junior Varsity 6 p.m. Monday.
