Cedar Valley Storms Past ETBU JV, 86-45

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's No. 14-ranked women's basketball team beat East Texas Baptist University Junior Varsity, 86-45, Tuesday night.

The National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Suns improved to 3-2 this season – their two losses against NJCAA Division I opponents.

Taylor Elam had 19 points on 9 of 13 shooting, six rebounds and a steal on a night three Cedar Valley players reached double figures. Carmela Hayden had 16 points, four assists and a steal. Deja Thomas had 14 points, eight steals and three assists.

The Suns, who shot 44 percent from the field, led 49-25 at halftime. Cedar Valley used a big third quarter to blow the game wide open, outscoring the Tigers, 22-6, in the period.

Precious Jackson-Sanders finished with eight points on 4 of 7 shooting, and had a block and a steal. Mia Thomas had nine points and three steals.

The Suns committed just six turnovers, while coming up with 17 steals on the defensive end.

Cedar Valley shot 11 of 25 from the free throw line.

The Suns will host Southwestern Christian College 5:30 p.m. Monday before heading to its final in-season tournament of the regular season next Friday and Saturday at Trinity Valley Community College's Cardinal Classic.
