Suns Lights Out in Road Win over Richland

DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley's ninth-ranked women's basketball team beat host Dallas College Richland, 112-55, Saturday.

The Suns (6-4) shot 66 percent from the floor and 59 percent from three-point range, topping 100 points for the first time this season. It was the most points Cedar Valley scored since putting up 114 versus Richland last season on Feb. 9.

Precious Jackson-Sanders scored 26 points, grabbed 17 rebounds, and had two blocks, while shooting 12 of 13 from the field. She had eight of the Suns' 22 offensive boards. Carmela Hayden added 20 points on 7 of 10 shooting, and had five rebounds, six assists and three steals. Mia Thomas had 19 points, six assists, three steals and five rebounds, while canning 5 of 8 three-pointers.

Cedar Valley was 13 of 15 from the free throw line.

The Suns outscored the Thunderducks (3-5) in the first quarter, 34-15. They bookended the game with a 34-11 scoring advantage in the fourth period.

Deja Thomas had a season-high 10 assists, six steals and seven points for the Suns, whose shooting percentage was the highest this season. Taylor Elam had eight points, seven rebounds and two steals.

Cedar Valley assisted on a season-best 26 of its 43 field goals. The Suns' 13 triples were the most this season.

The Suns, who've won their past two, will host Arlington Baptist University Red 6 p.m. Thursday.
