No. 7 Cedar Valley Moves within Win of Clinching DAC Title

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball team beat Dallas College Mountain View, 103-84, Thursday night.

It marked the fifth straight win for the Suns, and was the second time this season they scored over 100 points.

Ranked No. 7 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll, Cedar Valley (12-5, 2-0 Dallas Athletic Conference) moved within one win of clinching the league regular season title. The Suns play at Southwestern Christian College 2 p.m. Saturday, and host Dallas College Richland 6 p.m. Tuesday in another DAC matchup.

Mountain View, which is receiving votes in the NJCAA Division III rankings, fell to 10-8 overall, 1-3 in the conference.

Cedar Valley shot 55 percent, going 39 of 71. The Suns were 12 of 31 from three-point range and 13 of 20 from the free throw line.

Suns guard Carmela Hayden scored a career-high 33 points off the bench on 11 of 16 shooting, and had five assists and two steals. She buried a career-best eight triples.

Cedar Valley's 12 three-point field goals were the second most this season. The Suns knocked down 13 triples in a non-league win at Richland Dec. 2.

Suns point guard Deja Thomas finished with 21 points, 12 assists, five steals and four rebounds. She was 8 of 10 from the floor. It was the third time she had 10 or more assists this season.

The Suns led 46-37 at halftime. They outscored the Lions, 33-27, in the third quarter to stretch the lead 15.

Precious Jackson-Sanders had 16 points, 15 rebounds, three assists and a block off the bench. It was her fifth double-double of the season. Ciana Fudzie grabbled 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass, and had five points and two blocks. It was the second straight game she's had double-digit rebounds, and the third overall. Nekayla Williams finished with nine points and eight boards. Taylor Elam had six points, six rebounds and a block.

Cedar Valley had 57 rebounds, marking the fifth straight game the Suns have topped 50. It was the eighth time this season – all coming in the last nine games.

Tuesday's game against Richland is the final home game of the year for the Suns.
