CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dallas College Cedar Valley's Mia Thomas was named the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

A 5-foot-6 sophomore guard from Houston, Thomas averaged 17.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists and three steals per game as the seventh-ranked Suns went 3-0 during the final week of the regular season. Thomas shot 57 percent during the Suns' three wins, helping Cedar Valley set a program record for wins (16) in a season.

Thomas matched her career-high with 26 points on 9 of 14 shooting, going 6-for-10 from the three-point line, grabbed seven rebounds, and had three steals in a 71-58 win at NJCAA Division I Jacksonville College in the regular season finale. She had 15 points, going 7 of 12 from the floor, six assists, five boards and four steals in a 95-39 victory over Dallas College Richland. Two days later, she scored 11 points, had two steals and four rebounds in an 84-46 win at Richland as Cedar Valley went unbeaten in league play to capture the Dallas Athletic Conference title.

Thomas has scored in double figures in 12 games, including the last three. She's had 20 or more in three games. She is averaging 13.8 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game.

Cedar Valley (16-5) plays at Joliet Junior College (14-15) for the NJCAA Division III Central District championship 5 p.m. Friday.
