Taylor McKinney was named an assistant coach at Dallas College Cedar Valley in June 2019.

McKinney was part of a Suns coaching staff that produced a 15-5 overall, 3-1 Dallas Athletic Conference record in 2022-23. Cedar Valley was co-champs of the DAC, and climbed to as high as No. 7 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings.

In 2021-22, McKinney helped lead the Suns to a 5-0 record in league play. Cedar Valley, which went 9-8 overall, advanced to the NJCAA Division III Southeast District tournament.

In 2019-20, the Suns won the NJCAA Division III Southeast District championship, beating Prince George's Community College, 63-62. Cedar Valley advanced to the NJCAA DIII national tournament, going 1-1 before COVID-19 shut down the season. The Suns beat Massasoit Community College, 73-68, in the opening round of the national tournament. The Suns went 12-11 overall, 8-0 in the DAC that season.
