Dallas College Cedar Valley's volleyball team is playing for a berth in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Southwest District Championship tournament.

It's been since 2003 that the Suns have reached the finals of the Southwest District tournament. The Suns have previously reached three semifinals under Coach Isabel Almendarez-Ramos, yet all of them concluded in five-set losses. In each of those matches, Cedar Valley was the lower-seeded team, playing against the No. 1 seeds. This Friday's match will be against Dallas College Richland at 7 p.m. in Farmers Branch at Dallas College Brookhaven. Cedar Valley is the No. 2 seed in the tournament this year.

"I'm excited to see what happens this Friday night because I feel they're ready," Almendarez-Ramos said. "No matter who's on the other side of the court this weekend, we just have to focus on us and believe in ourselves that we can do it."
