Six Suns Earn All-DAC Volleyball Honors

Dallas College Cedar Valley volleyball player Kalaya Pierce was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Setter of the Year.

Pierce, a sophomore from Lindale, Texas, also was named a First Team All-DAC selection. She joined teammate Isaline Jaquemyn, a sophomore outside hitter from Oostakker, Belgium, on the first team.

Lauren Collier, a sophomore outside hitter from Houston, and Laila Beck, a freshman outside hitter from Dayton, Texas, earned second team honors. Angelys Rivera, a sophomore middle blocker from Ponce, Puerto Rico, and Calah Henthorn, a sophomore defensive specialist from Fort Worth, were named honorable mention selections.

Pierce finished the season with 1,033 assists, which was second among National Junior College Athletic Association Division III leaders. She finished her two-year Suns career with 1,814 assists, 583 digs, 73 blocks and 73 aces. She had 306 digs, 55 blocks and 53 aces this season as Cedar Valley went 15-21 overall, 6-4 in the DAC, advancing to the NJCAA DIII Southwest District championship match for the first time since 2003.

Jacquemyn had 362 kills, 264 digs, a team-leading 59 aces and 23 blocks. Collier pounded a team-best 377 kills, 193 digs, 30 aces and 20 blocks. Beck had a team-high 118 blocks, which ranked third in the nation, and 196 kills.

Rivera had 61 blocks and 97 kills. Henthorn had 168 digs and 17 aces.

Cedar Valley finished second in the league during the regular season, and runner-up on the postseason tournament.
