Birdwell and Davis Honored with 2018-2019 SUNS Award

As the 2018-2019 school year comes to a close, the Cedar Valley College Athletic Department has named Blake Birdwell and Jasmine Davis as this year's recipients of the SUNS Award.

Each year one female and one male student-athlete are selected as the SUNS Award recipient as voted on by the CVC Athletic Department. This designation goes to the student-athletes that best exemplifies outstanding efforts in academics, athletics, and community service, all while upholding the mission of Cedar Valley College. 

Blake Birdwell (Baseball-Burleson, Texas) totaled 65 hits, 46 runs, 35 RBIs, and two home runs at the plate while tossing 39 strikeouts with a 3-3 record on the mound during his career at Cedar Valley. Birdwell has earned NJCAA All-Academic First Team honors and picked up a Dallas Athletic Conference Pither of the Week award last season. 

Jasmine Davis (Volleyball-Wichita Falls, Texas) was phenomenal in her lone season at CVC, along with being an outstanding student-athlete she was also the third straight Sun to garner NJCAA All-American recognition. This past season, Davis posted 287 kills, 322 digs, 69 total blocks (23 solo blocks, 46 block assists), 22 service aces, 355 points to go along with a hitting percentage of .222. The Wichita Falls native ranked in the Top 50 of the NJCAA in kills (#29), block assists (#27), total blocks (#44), and points (#31). She was also named the Dallas Athletic Conference/Region V Most Valuable Player and earned First Team All-Region V honors.
