Suns Baseball Has Seven Sign to 4-Year Schools

The CVC Athletic Department is proud to announce that seven student-athletes from the CVC Baseball Team have signed with four-year institutions. Shannon Broussard, Tylor Frailey, Alex Garcia, Ryder Lognion, Jesus Payan, Luis Payan, and Alex Rivera have all signed letters of intent to further their educations and playing careers.

The group helped lead the Suns to one of their best seasons ever, winning a record-high 37 victories on the way to the NJCAA District C Tournament.

Shannon Broussard has signed with Angelo State University (NCAA Division II - Lone Star Conference) in San Angelo, TX. Broussard had a stellar career while at CVC, being named 2017 All-MAC/Region V Pitcher of the Year and selected to the All-MAC/Region V First Team. Broussard made 13 appearances and starts during the season, tossing 70 strikeouts in 96.2 innings pitched with a 2.89 earned run average. The Baytown native earned 10 wins from the mound (tied for second in the NJCAA) including two complete games, one being a shutout.

Tylor Frailey has signed with the University of Texas - Permian Basin (NCAA Division II - Lone Star Conference) in Odessa, TX. In 2017, Frailey led CVC and was tied for seventh in the NJCAA with 69 runs. The second-year Sun also had a team-highs in stolen bases (10) and triples (9), adding four home runs with a .362 batting average.

Alex Garcia has signed with Oklahoma Christian University (NCAA Division II – Heartland Conference) in Edmond, OK. In 2017, Garcia split time during the season on the mound and in the batter's box and was named to the All-MAC/Region V First Team as a designated hitter and All-MAC/Region V Second Team honors as a pitcher. In 173 at-bats, Garcia accumulated 71 hits, 54 RBIs, 31 runs, and five home runs with a team-high .410 batting average.

Jesus Payan has signed with the University of Mary (NCAA Division II - Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference) in Bismark, ND. J. Payan had a great 2017, slugging his way to an All-MAC/Region V First Team selection as an outfielder, leading the Suns with 68 RBIs and finishing sixth in the NJCAA. J. Payan tied the team with six home runs and was second in hits with 80 and had a .381 batting average.

Luis Payan has signed with Sul Ross State University (NCAA Division III - American Southwest Conference) in Alpine, TX. With 15 appearances and 25.2 innings pitched in 2017, L. Payan went 3-0 during the year with one save as a relief pitcher, racking up 14 strikeouts with a 3.86 ERA on on his way to earning All-MAC/Region V honors.

Ryder Lognion has signed with LeTourneau University (NCAA Division III - American Southwest Conference) in Longview, TX. Lognion posted a 4-3 record on the year with two saves, tossing 27 strikeouts.

Alex Rivera has signed with the University of Texas - Permian Basin (NCAA Division II - Lone Star Conference) in Odessa, TX. Rivera registered 66 hits, 44 RBIs, 36 runs, and tied a team-high six home runs on his way to the All-MAC/Region V First Team selection as a catcher in 2017. Rivera finished the year with a team-high .602 slugging average and had a batting average of .375.
