Baseball Falls in District C-East Semi-Finals

Baseball Falls in District C-East Semi-Finals

The CVC Baseball Team concluded their 2019 spring campaign over the weekend after falling in the East Divisional semi-finals of the NJCAA DIII District C Tournament.

CVC hit a setback to begin the tournament falling to Brookhaven in the opening round, 6-5. Leo Aguilar was 2-for-4 at the plate and finished with two runs, an RBI, a double, and a stolen base in the close loss.

With their backs against the wall possibly facing elimination, the Suns regrouped in day two of the tourney by scorching the Mountain View Lions, 17-7. Jose Castillo and Ben Cross each had a game-high three runs, with Aguilar providing three RBIs. Noah Lynch earned the victory on the mound tossing nine strikeouts in eight innings pitched.

Having worked their way back and only one game away from the East Divisional Championship game, the Suns would have to face Brookhaven again after the Bears fell to Coastal Bend earlier in the day.

Cedar Valley fought tooth and nail and gave a valiant effort in game three, but BHC escaped with a 10-7 late rally win. Grant Moore had a team-high two runs with five different Suns also crossing home plate. Billy Rogers added a team-high two RBIs and Isaia Diermier crushed a home run.

Despite not reaching their ultimate goal of a national championship, Head Coach Robert Dally is proud of this year's squad. "This year's team was a very special group. I am saddened that this was the last time I coached my sophomores and this team. We had some fun and played the game of baseball the right way," said Coach Dally.

"There is no disappointment in our season or their effort. They fought hard and with pride. I am very proud of my team. I love my guys!"

The Suns finish the year with an overall record of 31-21.
