Rogers, Castillo, Boyd lead Baseball All-DAC/NJCAA Region V Selections

After a successful season that resulted in an NJCAA DIII District C Tournament semi-finals appearance for the CVC Baseball Team, the conference office has announced that 11 Suns have earned All-Dallas Athletic Conference/NJCAA Region V recognition.

Billy Rogers (OF), Jose Castillo (OF), and Chandler Boyd (2B) were named to the All-DAC/NJCAA Region V First Team, while Ben Cross (SS), Noah Lynch (P), and Ryan Ratliff (1B) were named to the All-DAC Second Team. Leo Aguilar (C), Blake Birdwell (RHP/INF), William Bond (P), Ryan Foley (P), and Jamison Totten (UTL) garnered All-Honorable Mentions. 

DAC All-Conference-All NJCAA Region V First Team:

Billy Rogers - Along with earning All-DAC/NJCAA Region V honors for the second straight season, Rogers was named 2019 Hitter of the Year totaling 99 hits (1st NJCAA), 64 runs (6th NJCAA), 63 RBIs (7th NJCAA), 23 doubles (3rd NJCAA), and five home runs during the season. The second-year Sun hit for a .488 batting average (3rd NJCAA), .557 on-base percentage (10th NJCAA), and .714 slugging percentage. Rogers was named NJCAA and DAC Player of the Week three times this season (DAC-2, NJCAA-1).

Jose Castillo - Castillo made an instant impact for the Suns in his first season posting 88 hits (3rd NJCAA), 72 RBIs (3rd NJCAA), 57 runs, 27 doubles (1st NJCAA), and six home runs. The Dallas product was named NJCAA and DAC Player of the Week three times this season (DAC-2, NJCAA-1) and finished with averages of .429 batting, .494 OBP, and .659 SLG.

Chandler Boyd - Boyd was integral in CVC's success this year ranking in the top five of many statistical categories for the Suns amassing 67 hits, 55 runs, 37 RBIs, and 18 doubles (14th NJCAA). The sophomore boasted averages of .353 batting, .432 OBP, and .484 SLG. 

DAC All-Conference Second Team:

Ben Cross - Cross competed in 44 games for the Suns this season with averages of .336 batting, .473 OBP, and .462 SLG. The freshman infielder also recorded 48 hits, 28 RBIs, six doubles, three triples, and two home runs.

Noah Lynch - Wrapping up his sophomore year at CVC, Lynch finished 2019 with a record of 6-4 on the mound. The Texas Wesleyan commit tossed 72 strikeouts with a 6.04 ERA and earned DAC Pitcher of the Week honors against Brookhaven in the regular season. 

Ryan Ratliff - Ratliff was a dual threat for CVC this season at the plate and on the mound. The Henderson State commit not only registered a .383 batting average with a team-high eight home runs, but he also tossed 13 strikeouts and earned a win on the mound.

DAC All-Conference Honorable Mention:

Jamison Totten sealed his second consecutive All-DAC selection finishing with solid averages of .350 batting, .485 OBP, .412 SLG and a DAC Player of the Week award. Leo Aguilar and William Bond each earned their first All-DAC honor, with Aguilar logging many career-highs such as a .303 batting average, 31 runs, and 20 RBIs, while Bond finished the year with a record of 2-1, 18 strikeouts, and a 5.45 ERA. Blake Birdwell had career highs in RBIs (23), doubles (six), and slugging percentage (.418) at the plate and finished the season on the mound with 15 strikeouts and a victory. Ryan Foley was impressive in his sophomore campaign with 36 strikeouts, an ERA of 7.92, three saves, and an overall record of 2-3.
