Suns Open League Play Wednesday at North Lake

Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team will begin Dallas Athletic Conference play noon Wednesday at Dallas College North Lake.

The Suns (5-3) are coming off a four-game series split with Hesston College last weekend.

Cedar Valley outfielder Jaquavius Davis was named the DAC Offensive Player of the Week after collecting seven hits, including a double and triple, and driving in seven runs in the series. He had two hits in three of the four games. Davis is batting .440 this year, and is tied with fellow outfielder Antonio Sabala for the team lead in hits with 11. Sabala is hitting .478 with three doubles and two triples.

Outfielders Caden Robertson and Matthew Marsic are both hitting .455 with two home runs apiece. Robertson has driven in 11 runs, and Marsic 10. Infielder Blaine Thomas had seven hits in eight at-bats, and drove in seven runs in three games two weeks ago. Infielder Jayden Ramos, who along with Robertson and Marsic has 10 hits this season, is batting .435 with nine RBI. Outfielder Samuel Massi is hitting .400.

Right-handed pitcher Caleb Pacheco is 2-0 with 11 strikeouts in 10 innings pitched. Robertson, a left-handed thrower, is 1-0 with a 3.00 earned run average. Massi is 1-0 with 10 strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Jaxon Simmons is 1-1 with seven strikeouts in five innings.

North Lake enters league play with a 5-9 overall record. The Blazers received votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III preseason rankings.

Cedar Valley will host the final two games of the league-opening series against North Lake at noon Friday and Saturday.
