Cedar Valley Sweeps Pair at Arlington Baptist

FORT WORTH, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team swept a doubleheader at Arlington Baptist University Monday, winning 16-6 in five innings and 10-5 in seven innings.

Cedar Valley, which is receiving votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings released Monday, improved to 14-7. It was the third twin bill sweep of the season for the Suns.

In the opener, Ryan Talley went 3-for-4 with a double, four runs batted in and a stolen base. Ian Williams was 3-for-3 with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base. They were two of seven Suns with multiple hits.

Antonio Sabala was 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBI. Samuel Massi was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two walks. Daniel Brandon III had two hits, a walk and two RBI in two at-bats. Jayden Ramos doubled twice, and drove in two runs in four plate appearances. Cooper Brewer was 2-for-3.

Arlington Baptist took a 3-0 lead after one inning before Cedar Valley responded with six runs in the third. The Patriots scored three in the bottom of the third to tie it. But the Suns picked up two runs in their next at-bat, and exploded for eight more in the fifth to set up the run-rule victory.

Cedar Valley outhit Arlington Baptist, 18-5.

In the nightcap, the Suns overcame a 4-1 fifth-inning deficit, scoring nine runs in the last two innings to secure the sweep.

Sabala was 2-for-3 with four RBI and a walk. Massi went 2-for-2 with two RBI. Ramos had a hit, and drove in two runs. Talley had a sacrifice fly, walked, and drove in two runs.

Rece Houghton (2-0) went five innings on the mound, allowing four runs, one earned, three hits and two walks in the win. Landon Kinder gave up a run, three hits and no walks, while recording two punchouts in two innings to earn his second save of the season.

The Suns had eight hits, and the Patriots six.

The same two teams will play another doubleheader at Arlington Baptist Tuesday.
