Cedar Valley Splits with ETBU JV

MARSHALL, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team split a doubleheader with East Texas Baptist University Junior Varsity Monday, losing 6-3, and winning 13-3 in five innings.

The Suns were outhit in the first game, 9-5, but turned the tables in the second game, 15-5.

Trailing 6-0 in the first game, Cedar Valley (18-11) scored all three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but it wasn't enough. Matthew Marsic doubled home two runs in the seventh, and Jayden Ramos had an RBI single.

Ryan Talley, Blaine Thomas and Samuel Massi each had a hit. Caden Robertson had a walk and a stolen base.

In the second game, the Suns jumped out to a 4-0 lead before the Tigers responded with three runs of their own. Cedar Valley put six runs on the board in the second, however, to extend the lead to seven runs. The Suns picked up two more in the third and one in the fifth to put the game away in the run-rule victory.

Suns starter Austin Brown (1-1) worked three innings, allowing four hits, three runs and three walks, and had one strikeout to record the win on the mound. Cole Caldwell gave up a hit, a walk and no runs, and struck out one in two innings to close the door.

Thomas was 4-for-4 with three doubles, two runs batted in and a stolen base. Antonio Sabala, Elian Gonzales, Robertson and Marsic each had two hits. Marsic had three RBI, and Robertson two. Sabala and Gonzales each doubled, and drove in a run. Ramos was 1-for-2 with two RBI, and Talley 1-for-3 with one RBI. Cooper Brewer tripled.

Cedar Valley opens a three-game Dallas Athletic Conference series at Dallas College Brookhaven 12 p.m. Wednesday. The Suns are scheduled to host the Bears Friday and Saturday at noon.
