Cedar Valley Wins Final Regular Season Game

FARMERS BRANCH, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's 13th-ranked baseball team won the final game of the regular season Saturday, beating host Dallas College Brookhaven, 13-10.

The Suns (36-19, 16-14 Dallas Athletic Conference) finished third in the league. They are one win shy of matching the program record of 37 victories set in 2017.

Cedar Valley scored seven runs in the second inning, jumpstarting an 11-2 lead through four innings. Brookhaven scored six times in the fifth and one more in the sixth to pull within 11-9. But the Suns added two more in the eighth, and the Bears were able to scratch out just one more run the rest of the way.

Cedar Valley's Blaine Thomas went 4-for-5 with three RBI. Jaquavius Davis and Jayden Ramos both went 3-for-6. Antonio Sabala went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, two RBI, a sacrifice fly, two walks and a stolen base. Caden Robertson belted his National Junior College Athletic Association Division III-leading 17th home run, and drove in four runs.

It was the second straight game Robertson homered.

Suns starter Rece Houghton improved to 7-1. He gave up eight runs on 11 hits and four walks, and had three strikeouts in five innings. Samuel Massi earned his first save, giving up two runs, one earned, on four hits and no walks, while recording three strikeouts.

Cedar Valley will compete in the NJCAA Division III South Central District Tournament at Dallas College Eastfield, beginning Wednesday.
