Robertson Named DAC Co-MVP
Dallas College Cedar Valley baseball's Caden Robertson was voted the Dallas Athletic Conference's Co-Most Valuable Player.
A sophomore outfielder from Magnolia, Texas, Robertson batted .418 with 19 home runs, 16 doubles, five triples, 79 runs batted in, 21 stolen bases and 69 runs scored. His 19 home runs lead the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III, while his 79 RBI rank fourth. Robertson had multiple hits in 26 games, including a season-high four in two games. He hit two home runs, and matched a season-best five RBI in a 6-5 win over Dallas College Brookhaven April 1.
Third baseman Jayden Ramos and outfielder Antonio Sabala were named First Team All-DAC. First baseman Blaine Thomas, second baseman Ryan Talley, catcher Elian Gonzales, designated hitter Daniel Brandon III and pitchers Caleb Pacheco, Landon Kinder and Jeremiah Darrough earned Second Team honors.
A freshman from Deer Park, Texas, Ramos batted .353 with 14 doubles, five homers, 49 RBI, eight stolen bases and 60 runs scored. He had multiple hits in 17 games, with a season-high three in five.
A sophomore from Spring, Texas, Sabala hit .388 with 17 doubles, six triples, one home run, 43 RBI, 19 stolen bases and 72 runs scored. He led the nation in walks with 53, was tied for ninth in runs and tied for 10th in triples. Sabala had multiple hits in 24 games, with a season-high four against Dallas College Mountain View April 15.
A sophomore from Frisco, Texas, Thomas led the DAC in hitting with a .494 average. He ranked seventh in the country in that category. He had 27 doubles, three triples, five home runs, 55 RBI, eight stolen bases and 65 runs scored. His 27 doubles also rank first in the nation. Thomas had multiple hits in 22 games, with a season-high four on five occasions.
A sophomore from Richmond, Texas, Talley batted .406 with seven doubles, two triples, one homer, 58 RBI, 12 stolen bases and 43 runs scored. He had multiple hits in 22 games, including a season-best four in three.
A sophomore from Forney, Texas, Gonzales hit .284 with 11 doubles, 19 RBI and 33 runs scored. He had multiple hits in 14 games, with a season-high three at Brookhaven March 29.
A freshman from Tarkington, Texas, Brandon III batted .390 with seven doubles, four home runs, 36 RBI, seven stolen bases and 32 runs scored. He had multiple hits in 13 games, with a season-best five at Brookhaven March 31.
A freshman from New Braunfels, Texas, Pacheco went 11-2 with a 5.21 earned run average and 55 strikeouts in 67.1 innings. His 11 victories led NJCAA Division III. He struck out a season-high eight batters at Dallas College North Lake Feb. 23. Pacheco had five or more strikeouts in five games.
A sophomore from Haslet, Texas, Kinder went 2-2 with three saves, a 4.57 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 45.1 innings. He appeared in 15 games as a reliever, recording at least one strikeout in all but one game. Kinder struck out a season-high five hitters in five innings of the 9-8 win over then-No. 1 Dallas College Eastfield March 8.
A freshman from Grand Prairie, Texas, Darrough went 5-1 with a 6.55 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 45.1 innings. He appeared in 15 games, starting one. He recorded at least one strikeout in 13 games, with a season-high eight in seven innings to pick up the win at Mountain View March 3.
Cedar Valley went 38-21, setting a program record for victories in a season. The Suns earned a No. 13 national ranking late in the season, and advanced to the NJCAA Division III South Central District double-elimination semifinals.
