Suns Win Fifth Straight, Pick up first DAC Victory

DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team won its fifth straight game, beating Dallas College Mountain View, 5-3, Wednesday in the first game of the Dallas Athletic Conference series.

It was the first conference win of the season for the Suns, who improved to 15-11 overall, 1-6 in the DAC.

Lane Atherton, Hayden Carpenter, Homar Barrera-Lopez and Jacob Cueva each had two of Cedar Valley's 12 hits. Eight of the nine batters in the Suns' lineup had at least one hit.

Cedar Valley scored twice in the top of the third inning to jump on top, 3-1. Mountain View (11-12, 1-6) scored a run in the third and fourth innings to tie the game. The Suns regained the lead in the seventh with a run, and added an insurance run in the ninth, and Mateo Carrasco closed out the game on the mound to secure the win.

Carrasco came on in relief of starter Keller Thompson, working the last four innings to get the win. Carrasco did not surrender a run, and allowed two hits and four walks, while striking out two. Keller went the first five innings, allowing three unearned runs on three hits and four walks, and struck out a season-high nine batters in the non-decision.

Barrera-Lopez and Cueva both went 2-for-5 with an RBI. Daniel Brandon III and Aiden Hatton both were 1-for-5 with an RBI for the Suns, who outhit the Lions, 12-6.

Mountain View's Jeter Garcia went 2-for-4. Kortes Howard was 1-for-3 with a sacrifice. Greg Willis and Rene Garcia both went 1-for-4 with a stolen base.

Cedar Valley and Mountain View are scheduled to resume the series Friday.
