Cedar Valley Uses Late Surge to Beat Mountain View

Cedar Valley Uses Late Surge to Beat Mountain View

DALLAS – The Suns waited for some late-game sparks to create a little separation in the conference race. In the process, Cedar Valley just might be making a move up the league standings.

Dallas College Cedar Valley's baseball team broke a 4-4 tie with an eighth-inning run before tacking on four more in the top of the ninth to beat host Dallas College Mountain View, 9-4, Thursday in the second game of a Dallas Athletic Conference series. The win gave the Suns a five-game lead over Mountain View, and moved Cedar Valley within two games of Dallas College North Lake for fourth place in the league.

Cedar Valley (26-21, 8-15 DAC) won its fourth game of the week and eighth in its last nine to move five games over .500 for the first time since beating Mountain View (13-27, 3-20) in Game 2 of the first three-game series between the two ball clubs. The Suns improved to 5-0 against the Lions this season.

The Suns, who run-ruled the Lions, 15-5, a day earlier, took advantage of four two-hit games by Hayden Carpenter, Cesar Mora, Zachary Mikes and Jordan Anguiano – each who drove in a run – in Thursday's victory. Carpenter and Mikes each had a double, as did Lane Atherton, and six different Cedar Valley hitters drove in a run in a game the Suns collected 11 hits. Aiden Hatton was 1-for-4 with a sacrifice fly.

Avery Dubose (2-0) got the win in three innings of shutout relief, allowing a hit and two walks.

Mountain View's Marlon Lavalais went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI. Zeke Velasquez and Johnny Toups also had a hit for the Lions.

Game 3 in the series is set for noon Friday at Mountain View.
