Cedar Valley Duo Claims DAC Players of Week

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's Johnny Garcia and David Chandler have been named the Dallas Athletic Conference Baseball Players of the Week. Garcia earned the league's Pitcher of the Week honor, while Chandler collected the Player of the Week award.
A freshman right-handed pitcher from Fort Worth, Texas, Garcia tossed five innings of shutout ball, allowing two hits and no walks, while striking out six in a win over Hesston College. He went the distance in the 11-0 run-rule victory over the Larks to complete a 3-1 home-opening weekend for the Suns.
It was Garcia's first appearance of the season.
Chandler, a sophomore from New Braunfels, Texas, batted .750, going 6-for-8 with three doubles, three RBI, three stolen bases and four runs scored in three games. He collected four hits while playing second base, and doubled twice, driving in a pair of runs as a designated hitter in the series finale. He had an on-base percentage of .800 and slugging percentage of 1.125 in the weekend series.
In four games this season, Chandler is hitting .600 with four stolen bases.
The Suns improved to 3-2, and are set to host Redlands Community College Friday and Saturday for a pair of doubleheaders beginning at noon each day.
