Hernandez Named First Team All-DAC, 4 Suns Second Team
DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley baseball's Ryan Hernandez received First Team All-Dallas Athletic Conference distinction.
Suns teammates Rendon Garcia, David Chandler, Drake McIver and Christian Alcala earned Second Team All-DAC honors.
A freshman outfielder from League City, Texas, Hernandez batted .374 with 22 doubles, a triple, two home runs, 50 runs batted in and seven stolen bases. He had three hits in eight games, including the last two, and had a 12-game hitting streak late in the season.
A freshman outfielder from Waxahachie, Texas, Garcia batted .331 with seven doubles, a triple, a home run, 39 RBI and 14 stolen bases. He had 20 multi-hit games, with a season high of four hits in a five-inning run-rule victory over Dallas Christian College. Garcia also recorded a win and three saves in 12 appearances on the mound, striking out 16 batters in 15 innings pitched.
A sophomore designated hitter from New Braunfels, Texas, Chandler hit .432 with four home runs, 11 doubles, three triples, 43 RBI and 12 stolen bases. He had 21 multi-hit games, including the last two, while recording three hits on six occasions.
A freshman right-handed pitcher from Royse City, Texas, McIver went 5-6 with a 5.15 earned run average and 54 strikeouts in 15 starts. At the plate, he hit .276 with two doubles, a homer and 15 RBI in 58 at-bats.
A freshman right-handed pitcher from Dallas, Alcala won two games, and had a 5.80 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 63.2 innings. He tossed five shutout innings, and struck out six in a 3-0 win over Hesston College.
