Suns Gearing up for ESports Playoffs Next Week

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley eSports' trio of Breana Smith, Demarree Poindexter and Khoi Nguyen will each compete in the National Junior College Athletic Association eSports playoffs, beginning next week.

Nguyen opens EA Sports FC 24 playoff competition 7 p.m. Monday, while Smith and Poindexter will compete in the Madden NFL 24 playoffs Wednesday evening. Smith's match begins at 5 p.m., and Poindexter's match is scheduled for 7 p.m.

"All of my student-athletes have put in the time and effort throughout this spring semester, and the work and dedication to our eSports program have put them in position to compete for the ultimate prize," Suns coach Marcus Woodard said. "Next week, we will have an opportunity to put our hard work to the test."

All three Suns student gamers posted 5-2 records in their respective titles during the spring season.

Nguyen won the Fall 23 FIFA 23 Tier 3 national championship, following an unbeaten season. He is competing in the Tier 1 division this spring.

Smith, along with Nguyen, is in her first full year. She finished third in the Madden Tier 3 fall national tournament.

Poindexter, also a freshman, is competing in the Madden 24 Tier 1 division.
