Suns Pick up OT Win at Mountain View

DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley men's basketball team outlasted host Dallas College Mountain View, 106-102, in an overtime shootout Saturday.

It was Cedar Valley's first Dallas Athletic Conference victory of the season for the Suns, who improved to 6-9 overall, 1-3 in the league. Mountain View fell to 5-11, 1-3.

Cedar Valley got out to a 54-44 halftime lead only for Mountain View to turn the tables in the second half when the Lions outscored the Suns by 10 to send it to overtime.

Taishaun Livingston scored 26 points on 12 of 19 shooting, and grabbed 13 rebounds, including eight on the offensive end, for the Suns, who overcame a 2-for-13 three-point shooting effort with a 55.3 percent field goal shooting performance. He was one of four players off the bench to reach double figures for Cedar Valley, which was credited with 20 assists on its 42 field goals.

Marcel Hurst had 17 points, five assists and four rebounds, and Jameer Battle and Armani Reese each had 13 points. Reese added seven boards and four blocks. Battle had six assists. Josh Beall had a double-double, scoring 12 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. He was 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Bryson Hill had 11 points on 4 of 5 field goal shooting.

Mountain View, which knocked down 13 of 25 triples for 52 percent, outrebounded the Suns, 46-43.

Lions point guard Louis Conner had 23 points, eight assists, six rebounds and five steals, while shooting 7 of 13 from the floor. Ashton Price had 23 points and six rebounds, and sank 9 of 12 free throws. He was 6 of 13 from the field. Augustine Chibuko had a double-double with 13 points and 13 boards, including seven offensive rebounds, and had two blocks. He was six of eight from the floor. Tracy White scored 15 points on 5 of 10 threes, and came away with two steals. Jeremiah Talib scored 11 points in 17 minutes, going 3-for-4 from beyond the 3-point arc.

Cedar Valley will finish the first round of the three-round conference schedule at Dallas College Eastfield 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Suns resume play after the holiday break Jan. 8 at Southwestern Adventist University.
