Abdulsalam Named DAC Defensive Player of Year, Suns Dot All-Conference Team

Farouk Abdulsalam was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Dallas College Cedar Valley's Farouk Abdulsalam was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Year.

Abdulsalam, center midfielders Aron Aguayo and Jonathan Morales and defender Kehinde Aregbeshola were selected to the DAC First Team. Defenders John Nyone and Makhi Solomon, center midfielder Mauricio Gutierrez, and forwards Sergio Molina and Jan Ayala all earned Second Team honors.

Abdulsalam helped the Suns pitch six shutouts, including a streak of four in a row. He scored a goal in a 3-1 win over Southwestern Assemblies of God University Reserve.  

Aguayo led the Suns with six goals and 17 points. He had one gamewinning goal. Morales had a goal and an assist. His goal was the gamewinner in a 1-0 shutout of Ranger College. Aregbeshola was also a centerpiece in the defense that limited opponents eight goals in six road games. He had a goal and an assist.

Nyone scored four goals, and finished with eight points – both of which were third on the team. Solomon had two goals and two assists. He scored the gamewinner in the DAC opener at Dallas College Mountain View. Gutierrez finished with a goal and three assists. His goal at Dallas Christian College was the gamewinner. Molina led the Suns with seven assists. Ayala had two goals and two assists.

The Suns went 9-4-2, climbing to as high as No. 5 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III national rankings. It was the most wins in a season since the program restarted in 2018.
