No. 7 Women's Basketball Hosts Mountain View Thursday

Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball hosts Dallas College Mountain View 6 p.m. Thursday in a clash of Dallas Athletic Conference foes.

Ranked No. 7 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll, Cedar Valley (9-3, 1-0 DAC) is coming off a 100-26 victory at Dallas College Richland last Thursday in the conference opener. Mountain View (8-6, 0-0) hadn't played since Nov. 30 before falling at the Dallas Angels Tuesday.

Cedar Valley beat Mountain View in both league meetings last season, earning a berth in the NJCAA DIII Southeast District tournament. Two years ago, the Lions won five of the nine meetings between the two teams during the COVID-altered spring schedule, beating the Suns in the NJCAA DIII Southwest District semifinals.

Cedar Valley midseason newcomer Ja-Tauria Miller scored 23 points in the win over the Thunderducks last week on her way to earning DAC Player of the Week honors. It marked just the third time she suited up for the Suns, and signaled her first start.

Suns guard Shandrea Yeldell is averaging 18.4 points, 3.8 assists and 3.6 steals per game. Backcourt mate Nakia Brumley is averaging 16.1 points, 4.6 assists and 3.4 steals. Center Sierra Headquist is averaging 12.7 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.2 blocks. Guard Kate Valle is scoring 7.3 points and 1.9 assists. Forward Kayriona Brown is pulling down 8.9 boards, and averaging just under a block and a steal per game.

Mountain View guard Devon Sherrod is averaging 21.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 4.3 steals. Forward Leah Jones is averaging 14.8 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 6.3 steals. Guard Shaviante Cobb is averaging 12.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.6 steals. Forward Kimberly Cohen is averaging 7.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.8 steals.
