Cedar Valley Wins Fifth Straight in Offensive Explosion

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball team won its fifth straight game Thursday, beating Dallas College Richland, 114-63.

It was the second meeting between the two Dallas Athletic Conference schools, with Cedar Valley winning both games.

The Suns, the seventh-ranked team in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings, scored 39 points in the second quarter to open up a 64-33 lead. They scored 30 points in the fourth quarter in an explosive offensive performance.

Cedar Valley's 114 points are a season high. It is the third time this season the Suns have reached 100 points or more, with two of those outbursts coming against Richland.

Suns guard Shandrea Yeldell scored a season-high 33 points, connecting on 14 of 21 field goals. She was 5 of 6 from the three-point line, and had a season-best nine assists, while matching a season-high eight steals. She was one of all five starters who scored in double figures.

Sierra Headquist finished with 22 points, 11 rebounds, two steals and a block. She went 8 of 12 from the floor, and had five offensive rebounds. It was her fourth double-double of the season. Nakia Brumley had 19 points, seven assists and six steals. It marked the fifth time she's recorded five or more steals this season. Tiffani Hamm scored 15 points on 7 of 11 shooting, and had five rebounds and a season-high three steals. Ja-Tauria Miller had 14 points and a season-best three steals.

Cedar Valley (13-3, 3-0 DAC) had 24 steals, marking the fifth game this season the Suns have recorded at least 20. They have had double-digit steals in all but two of their 16 games.

The Suns made a season-high 46 field goals, shooting 49.5 percent. They had 22 assists, reaching 20 for the fourth time this season.

Cedar Valley will host Dallas Christian College 6 p.m. Tuesday on Valentine's Day.
