Hayden Named DAC Player of Week

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's Carmela Hayden was named the Dallas Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

A 5-foot-8 sophomore point guard from Dallas, Hayden averaged 15.3 points, three steals, two assists and 2.7 rebounds per game as the Suns went 1-2 to open the season. Hayden reached double figures in scoring in each of Cedar Valley's first three games.

She had 16 points, four steals, five rebounds and a block in the season-opening 88-30 win at Southwestern Adventist University. Hayden scored 20 points, going 9 of 11 from the free throw line, in a 90-57 loss to National Junior College Athletic Association Division I Temple College. In another NJCAA Division I loss at Hill College one day later, Hayden finished with 10 points, five assists, shot 40 percent from three-point range, and had three steals and three boards.

Cedar Valley will play at San Antonio College 2 p.m. Saturday. The Suns' home opener is Tuesday, Nov. 14 versus East Texas Baptist University Junior Varsity.
