Hayden Second Team All-American, Thomas Honorable Mention
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball's Carmela Hayden was named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Second Team All-American. Suns teammate Deja Thomas was an Honorable Mention All-American.
A 5-foot-6 sophomore guard from Dallas, Hayden averaged 14.6 points, four rebounds and 1.7 steals per game. Named the Dallas Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player, she scored in double figures in 20 games, putting up a career-high 33 in a win over Dallas College Mountain View Feb. 15. She had 25 points in the first of two wins over NJCAA Division II Jacksonville College Dec. 12.
Thomas, a 5-3 sophomore point guard from Dallas, averaged 12.7 points, 5.6 assists and 5.2 steals per game. She reached double figures in 19 games, scoring a career-high 26 on 10 of 14 shooting in a win over Arlington Baptist University Red Dec. 7. Thomas had five or more steals in 15 games, including a career-best 11 in a win at San Antonio College Nov. 11.
Hayden and Thomas helped lead the Suns to a program-best 19-7 record and trip to the NJCAA Division III semifinals.
