Suns Women's Hoops Pick up Second Win of Week

KEENE, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball team won its second game of the week, beating Southwestern Adventist University on the road, 67-59, Wednesday.

Kamryn Williams scored 20 points, and grabbed 10 boards, and Vivian Nwabufo had 19 points and nine rebounds – both playing 35 minutes in the Suns' win.

Cedar Valley had to postpone its Dallas Athletic Conference opener at home with Dallas College Mountain View Thursday until Tuesday.

The shorthanded Suns shot 39.4 percent from the field, while Southwestern Adventist hit 41.3 percent of its shots. The Knights knocked down 11 of 25 triples, while the Suns struggled from long distance, going 3 of 17.

Williams made a layup with 9:37 to play in the third quarter to start an 11-0 run for the Suns. Kyla To canned a triple during the spurt that spanned 3:11, pushing Cedar Valley to a 12-point lead.  

The Suns led by 10 entering the fourth quarter.

To's jump shot with 6:16 to go kept Cedar Valley in front by 11. Williams' layup at the 4:12 mark stretched the lead to 12. Southwestern Adventist cut it to 65-59 on Becky Colmenares' three-point play at the 2:37 mark before Williams answered with a steal and a layup with 1:54 remaining to put the game away.

To had nine points and four steals. Cyncere McDonald scored eight points for the Suns.

Sarah Valderrama had 15 points, Abby Valero 14 and Jenesis Nicholas 12 – each making four field goals for the Knights, who were forced into 21 turnovers from Cedar Valley's defensive pressure.

The Suns committed a season-low seven turnovers.
