No. 5 Suns Open League with Win over Lions

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's fifth-ranked women's basketball team withstood a wire-to-wire battle with Dallas College Mountain View, 78-70, Tuesday night in the Dallas Athletic Conference opener.

Sha'Davia Eldridge knocked down a 3-pointer in the closing minute to put the game away for the Suns, who improved to 6-8 overall, 1-0 in the DAC. It was Eldridge's only shot of the game.

Cyncere McDonald finished with 21 points, nine rebounds and three assists for the Suns, who led by a point at halftime and three after three quarters. She was 9 of 18 from the field. It was the third game she's scored 20 or more.

Jamya Brown and Kamryn Williams combined to shoot 11 of 29 from the floor, scoring 15 and 14 points, respectively. Williams pulled down a season-high 20 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass, and had three steals. Passion Bolden added 13 points and eight boards off the bench. She went 6 of 11 from the field.

Cedar Valley outrebounded Mountain View, 55-27. The Suns had 23 offensive rebounds, including six by Vivian Nwabufo, who also had nine points and 11 boards, and five by Bolden.

Mountain View's Jourdan Jones had 23 points, going 8-for-12 from the field, while knocking down three triples. Asia Zachary had 14 points and three steals. She was 5 of 10 from the floor. Kianna Jones had 12 points, and Saniya Black 10. Kianna Jones hit six of eight field goals.

The Lions shot 53 percent. The Suns hit 43.5 percent of their field goals. Both teams attempted 33 free throws, with Mountain View sinking 18 and Cedar Valley making 15.

Cedar Valley plays at Wiley College Junior Varsity 2 p.m. Saturday. Mountain View hosts Dallas College Richland (9-6, 0-0) at 6 p.m. Thursday.
