Cedar Valley Moves Back to Top of DAC

DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's basketball team beat host Dallas College Mountain View, 75-66, Thursday night to position itself at the top of the conference standings again.

The No. 8-ranked Suns built a six-point lead at halftime, and after the No. 13 Lions pulled within four entering the fourth quarter, Cedar Valley pulled away for the nine-point win. The Suns led, 41-35, at halftime.

The win pushed the Suns to a half-game lead at the Dallas Athletic Conference at 9-9 overall and 2-1 in the league. Cedar Valley will host Dallas College Richland (12-7, 1-1 DAC) Feb. 20 in the final conference game of the season. A win over the Thunderducks would give the Suns the DAC regular season championship.

Mountain View fell to 10-11, 1-2, and will play at Richland next Thursday in its final conference game. The Lions beat the Thunderducks in their first meeting.

Cedar Valley's Cyncere McDonald scored 24 points, while going 9-for-12 from the free throw line, and Kamryn Williams had 22 points and 10 rebounds. It was her 14th double-double of the season. She also had two steals and a block, and McDonald added four assists and two steals. Vivian Nwabufo scored nine points, while Sha'Davia Eldridge and Kyla To each had six off the bench.

The Suns hit 5 of 11 triples, and sank 14 of 20 free throws for 70 percent.

Cedar Valley will begin a four-game homestand versus Nelson University 5 p.m. Tuesday. The Suns finish the regular season on the road Feb. 25 at Ranger College prior to the National Junior College Athletic Association Divison III Central District Tournament Feb. 28-March 1. The DAC champ will host the semifinals, and the championship game will be played at the site of the NJCAA Division III South Central men's district championship game March 1.
