Suns Win First Conference Game in 5 Years

Dallas College Cedar Valley's Khylissa White had a goal and an assist as the Suns won their first conference game in five years.

IRVING, Texas -- Dallas College Cedar Valley women's soccer team won its first conference game since Oct. 3, 2017, following a 2-1 victory at Dallas College North Lake Tuesday.

"I think it's huge," Suns first-year head coach John Antonisse said. "We needed to get a win because we've been close. Tonight, we just needed to close one out."

The Suns (3-6-0, 1-3-0 Dallas Athletic Conference) competed in the Metro Athletic Conference before the league was renamed the Dallas Athletic Conference in the fall of 2018.

Khilyssa White had a hand in both goals as Cedar Valley took a 2-0 lead into halftime. White scored the first goal in the fourth minute on an assist from Makayla Mohair. In the 37th minute, White found Litzi Posada for what amounted to the game winner.

White has three goals and 10 points this season. Posada scored her third goal of the year.

North Lake (0-5-0, 0-4-0) cut the deficit in half in the second half when Karla Pineda found the back of the net on a setup from Megan Morales in the 76th minute.

Cedar Valley had seven shots, including four on goal. North Lake attempted 11 shots, four on net. Suns goalkeeper Lawson McConnell made three saves. Blazers keepers Zoey Taylor and Jaqueline Serratos each played a half, stopping one shot apiece.

The Suns will host Dallas College Richland 4 p.m. Friday and National Park College 1 p.m. Sunday.

"I'm super happy with the result, and very proud of the team for their effort," Antonisse said. "We're turning the page."
