Women's Soccer Wins First Two Games for First Time in Program History

LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's soccer team erupted for seven second half goals en route to a 9-1 win over Arlington Baptist University Tuesday in the home opener.

The Suns improved to 2-0. It is the first time in program history Cedar Valley won its first two games to begin a season. The Suns have outscored their first two opponents 13-1.

Tenilee Anthony, Lilianna Tapia, Shakira Williams and Victoria Hernandez each scored two goals for the Suns, who outshot the Patriots, 44-5. Makayla Mohair added the other goal – an unassisted winner a minute into the second half.

Hernandez struck first on an assist from Lacey Birdsong in the 21st minute. Anthony made it 2-0 when she converted a pass from Haylie Sanchez. Arlington Baptist cut it to 2-1 in the final minute of the first half when the Patriots scored on a penalty kick.

Tapia's unassisted goal in the 52nd minute extended the Suns' lead to 4-1. Williams banged home a ball four minutes later. Briana Puente drew the first of two straight assists. She set up Tapia a minute later to give Cedar Valley a five-goal lead.

Hernadez scored her second goal in the 65th minute when Williams connected with her. Anthony and Williams finished things off with unassisted goals.

Princess Morales spent the first 45 minutes in goal, stopping one shot to pick up her second win of the season. Lawson McConnell made one save in the second half, and did not surrender a goal.

The Suns peppered the Patriots with 32 shots in the second half.

Cedar Valley will play at the University of Dallas 7 p.m. Friday in an exhibition. The Suns play at Southwestern Assemblies of God University 7 p.m. Monday.
