Cedar Valley Captures 9th Win, Most Since 2009

DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's soccer team set history.

The Suns beat host Dallas College Mountain View, 1-0, Friday night to capture their ninth win of the season. The nine wins are the most since Cedar Valley went 8-7-4 in 2009.

The school record for victories is 20, which came in 2005 when the Suns went 20-5, falling 4-3 to Springfield Technical Community College in a shootout, following a scoreless regulation in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III championship game.

Briana Puente scored off a free kick in the 70th minute as Cedar Valley shut out Mountain View for the second time this season. It was Puente's sixth goal of the season, and her first gamewinning goal. She has 18 points this year.

Suns goalkeeper Lawson McConnell stopped three shots in the second half after Princess Morales made one stop in the first 45:00. It was the Suns' sixth shutout of the season and fifth in Dallas Athletic Conference play. All six of the shutouts have been combined clean sheets by the Suns' pair.

Cedar Valley had 13 shots on goal to Mountain View's four. The Suns ripped off 22 shots in total, including 14 in the second half.

The Suns will play at No. 2 Dallas College Brookhaven 6 p.m. Tuesday to close the regular season. The NJCAA Division III South District Tournament is set for Oct. 26-28 at Brookhaven.
