LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's soccer team won for the third time in its past four games to remain unbeaten in Dallas Athletic Conference play.
Ranked No. 9 in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III poll, the Suns shut out Dallas College Eastfield, 1-0, Friday.
NJCAA Division III Player of the Week Victoria Hernandez scored the game's only goal off Mariah Macias' corner kick in the 75th minute. It was her team-leading fourth goal of the season. She also leads the Suns (4-1-1, 2-0-1 DAC) with nine points.
Suns goalkeepers Serena Aldana (2-1-0) and Olivia Reyna combined for the team's fourth shutout this year. Aldana made one save, while Reyna stopped two shots.
Cedar Valley finished with 18 shots – five on goal.
It is the best six-game start in program history. Cedar Valley bettered its 4-1-0 overall start from a year ago. The Suns began 2-1-0 in conference play last season. The Suns also improved to 2-0-1 at home this year.
Cedar Valley will play at Dallas College North Lake (3-3-2, 1-1-1) at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
