IRVING, Texas – Suns coach John Antonisse was beyond relieved.
"We can't keep living on the edge," Antonisse said with a laugh as he walked off the field, holding his hands to the sky.
If it's working, why deviate from the pattern?
No. 8 Dallas College Cedar Valley's women's soccer team came back to beat Dallas College North Lake, 3-2, Tuesday in a game where momentum shifts left the verdict in doubt until the final whistle. It was the third one-goal Dallas Athletic Conference victory for the Suns this season.
Victoria Hernandez scored the gamewinning goal at the 81:20 mark on an assist from Jennifer Guzman to lift Cedar Valley past a spirited North Lake team. It was Hernandez's second goal of the game and her third game winner of the season. It was also the second straight game she's scored the game winner.
Cedar Valley (5-1-1, 3-0-1 DAC) remained unbeaten in conference play.
The Suns outshot the Blazers, 11-9, including a 6-3 differential in the second half.
Victory Oyoyo Peter put the Suns on the board first when she scored on a header off Mariah Macias' corner kick in the 42nd minute. North Lake's Lia Santiago answered less than two minutes later, scoring on a through ball from Melissa Morales to tie the game at 1-1 just before halftime.
The Blazers (3-4-2, 1-2-1) took the lead nine-and-a-half minutes into the second half when Yanina Mejia redirected a header off Anahi Bernal's corner kick. Hernandez tied the game at 2-2, finding the back of the net after Celeste Gonzalez's through ball to the left side in the 64th minute.
Following Hernandez's go-ahead goal in the 82nd minute, North Lake's Alexa Solis cracked a shot six minutes later that went over the crossbar, and the Suns held on to win.
Hernandez leads the Suns with six goals. Oyoyo Peter's goal was the first of her career.
Cedar Valley starting goalkeeper Olivia Reyna stopped five shots in the first half. Serena Aldana made one save in the second half.
The Suns will host Dallas College Mountain View 4 p.m. Friday.
