LANCASTER, Texas – Dallas College Cedar Valley's women's soccer team tied Dallas College North Lake, 1-1, Friday in the final home game of the season.
It was the second draw of the week for the Suns, who are receiving votes in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III rankings. Cedar Valley (6-3-3, 4-2-3 Dallas Athletic Conference) also tied Dallas College Eastfield earlier in the week.
Suns goalkeeper Olivia Reyna (2-1-2) made four saves in the decision, spending one half between the posts. Cedar Valley's other keeper, Serena Aldana, made five saves in her one half of action. North Lake's Emely Vargas (4-4-5) stopped three shots in picking up her second tie of the week. The Blazers (4-5-5, 2-3-4) tied No. 9 Dallas College Richland earlier in the week.
Midfielder Mariah Macias put Cedar Valley ahead in the 35th minute when she scored an unassisted goal. The Suns maintained the one-goal lead to the closing minutes when North Lake defender Melissa Morales converted a free kick at the 88:30 mark.
It was Macias' third goal of the season.
The Suns outshot the Blazers, 21-9. Macias attempted nine shots, including two on goal. Victoria Hernandez had six shots, including three on goal.
Cedar Valley will finish the regular season 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dallas College Mountain View. The NJCAA Division III South District Tournament is scheduled for Oct. 22-26 at the site of the league's regular season champion.
