Hernandez Co-Offensive Player of Year, Suns Claim 7 DAC Awards

DALLAS – Dallas College Cedar Valley women's soccer's Victoria Hernandez was named the Dallas Athletic Conference co-Offensive Player of the Year.

Hernandez joined teammate Lilianna Tapia as First Team All-DAC selections. Goalkeeper Serena Aldana, defenders Celeste Gonzalez and Brianna Barcenas and midfielder Mariah Macias received Second Team All-DAC honors.

A sophomore forward from Ennis, Texas, Hernandez scored nine goals, including three game winners, and had four assists for a team-leading 22 points. She scored two goals in a 3-2 win at Dallas College North Lake. It was the second straight game she had the gamewinning goal after scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory over Dallas College Eastfield four days earlier. She also had two goals in a win at Dallas College Mountain View to end the regular season. Hernandez had a goal and an assist in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III South District quarterfinal win over Mountain View before finishing the tournament with an assist against Dallas College Richland in the semifinals.

A sophomore forward from Hutchins, Texas, Tapia finished the season with five goals and seven assists for 17 points. She had two gamewinning goals. Tapia scored the Suns' first goal of the season in the win over Arlington Baptist University – a game she had two goals and an assist. She had a goal and an assist in a home win over Mountain View and the district quarterfinal victory over the Lions. She also scored in a 2-2 tie at Dallas College Eastfield.

A freshman from Dallas, Aldana (5-3-1) ranked second in the country in save percentage (.933), tied for third in goals allowed (4) and fourth in goals against average (0.53). She shared six shutouts with fellow goalkeeper Olivia Reyna. Aldana stopped a season-high nine shots in a scoreless draw with Dallas College Brookhaven. She made seven saves in the district semifinals.

A freshman from Arlington, Texas, Gonzalez had three goals and five assists for 11 points. She helped the Suns record six shutouts, including three in conference matches. Gonzalez had two goals and three assists for a season-high seven points in the season-opening win. She had an assist in the win at North Lake, while recording an assist and a goal in successive wins over Mountain View to end the regular season and open the district tournament in the quarterfinals.

A freshman from Ennis, Barcenas also played a key role in the Suns' six clean sheets. Offensively, she scored two goals, and had one assist. Barcenas scored in the tie at Eastfield and in the South District quarterfinal win. Her assist came in the regular season finale at Mountain View.

A freshman from Dallas, Macias scored five goals, including three game winners, and had two assists for 12 points. She had a goal and an assist in the win at North Lake. She had back-to-back gamewinning goals to in the season's final two wins over Mountain View. Macias scored in three straight games, beginning with a 1-1 draw with North Lake prior to the two Mountain View victories.
