Cedar Valley Volleyball Prepares for Final Tournament

Dallas College Cedar Valley's volleyball team is coming off a sweep at Jarvis Christian University Monday, and will take a 5-10 record into this weekend's Lee College Invitational in Baytown, Texas. It is the final weekend of tournament play.

The Suns picked up wins at the Western Texas College Volleyball Fall Classic, the home opener against Clarendon College and against Southwestern Christian College in the Suns Tri-Match.

The Suns beat Clarendon, 25-23, 25-10, 21-25, 25-19. Lauren Collier had 11 kills, Isaline Jaquemyn nine and Angelys Rivera six.

At the Vernon College Classic, Jaquemyn had 32 kills, and Kalaya Pierce had 68 assists in the four matches.

In the 25-12, 23-25, 25-20, 25-10 win over Southwestern Christian, Collier pounded 18 kills, Jaquemyn banged down 12, and Jaquelyn Martinez and Rivera each had five on a day the Suns hit .232. Martinez had 18 digs, Pierce 11 and Jaquemyn 10. Pierce racked up 44 assists, and had three of the Suns' 11 aces. Emma Adebowale and Rivera each had two. 

Cedar Valley made quick work of Jarvis Christian, 25-17, 25-10, 25-15. It was the Suns' third sweep of the season. Collier had 12 kills, while hitting .409. Lauren Flanagan had nine kills, three aces and four blocks, while hitting .381. Jaquemyn, who leads the team with 140 kills, put away seven balls, ripped off six aces, and had a solo block. Pierce had 29 assists and four of Cedar Valley's 16 aces. Calah Henthorn added three aces.

The Suns hit .429 in the second set, and had a .271 attack percentage in the match.

Cedar Valley will meet Temple College, Wharton County Junior College, Panola College and host Lee Friday and Saturday in Baytown.
