Pierce Named DAC Player of Week

Dallas College Cedar Valley's Kalaya Pierce and Dallas College Eastfield's Amber Smart were named the Dallas Athletic Conference volleyball Players of the Week.

Dallas College Cedar Valley's Kalaya Pierce and Dallas College Eastfield's Amber Smart were named the Dallas Athletic Conference volleyball Players of the Week. 

Pierce collected the league's offensive honor after recording a pair of double-doubles in a four-set win over Southwestern Christian College and a five-set loss to Independence (Kan.) Community College at last Friday's Suns Tri-Match. Pierce had 44 assists and 11 digs, while hitting .375 on four kills in eight swings in the 3-1 victory over Southwestern Christian. She also had three aces. 

Against Independence, Pierce had 38 assists and 15 digs, and hit .800 with four kills on five attacks. She also had two aces and two blocks. She finished the week with a .583 hitting percentage. 

Pierce ranks second in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III in assists (389) and 20th in assists per set (7.48).

Cedar Valley (5-10) plays at the Lee College Invitational in Baytown, Texas, Friday and Saturday before opening conference play Monday at Dallas College Richland.
